DEPARTMENT: Communications

REPORTS TO: Director of Communications

FLSA: Exempt

This is a full-time, salaried position in Madison, WI. Reports to Director of Communications.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to coordinate and maintain the Societies social media presence. Develop and assist with the generation of ideas for social media; package ideas with sources for other departments review; schedule social media, keep editorial calendar of social media. Create and edit (photos, graphics, video) media used on social media channels. Keep social media sites fresh. Create social media analytics reports.

Social media channels include, and are not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Position duties
  • Coordinates opportunities for social media posting and coordination inside the organization and with outside groups. This position will work with all departments within the Societies.
  • Edits media photos, graphics, video shorts for use with social media according to Society standards.
  • Monitors social media statistics, and uses these statistics to identify needed changes to social media, set priorities for content development, etc.
  • Responds to request from other departments for social media postings; attends department meetings to suggest and develop social media campaigns as appropriate.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, marketing, communications, social media. A year or more of experience with social media optimization preferred. Ability to organize the workflow of social media and to work with other people and departments. Experience with social media management platforms, such as Hootsuite and Later. Experience with social media analytics and reporting. Science background preferred, agriculture and environmental sciences preferred. Excellent time management, project management, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Travel

This job requires at least one week of travel per year to the Societies annual meetings; in some years there may be travel to split meetings or specialized conferences. Additional travel may be required to cover stories, public events, or attend professional conferences. As much as 20% travel may be expected.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to the various Society Boards.

Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours/week.
