The Payments, Virtual Solutions, and Innovation (PVSI) team includes Operations, Consumer Credit Card, Retail Services, Consumer Deposits, the Innovation Group, Treasury Management, Merchant Services, Marketing and Wells Fargo Virtual Channels and the professional services teams that partner with these businesses. PVSI's focus is on delivering the next generation of payments and deposit capabilities and advancing our digital and online offerings to design new customer experiences and products. Our guiding principles are to start with the customer, move faster, and partner effectively.

The Innovation Group, a part of PVSI, is dedicated to serving as the catalyst for transformational change across the company, focusing on fostering the growth of big ideas that will efficiently influence business models, processes, and programs in order to meet evolving customer needs. The team actively partners across the enterprise with business lines, data and analytics, operations, and marketing to provide resources, support, and visibility that will help transform business models, products, and services.

The Role

This core member will focus on identifying, evaluating and executing on opportunities to drive growth and/or operational excellence from building business cases for a specific R&D topic to evaluating economic drivers for a new business. The work often mirrors the work found at top strategy consulting firms, VCs, and investment banks, but with an emphasis on getting to impact in close collaboration with LOB leaders. The role job offers significant exposure to senior leaders across the company.

This leader will develop business innovation recommendations that will have a material impact on Wells Fargos innovation agenda both from a top and bottom line standpoint as well as how we will adjust our business models to prepare for the future. You will drive and/or lead cross-functional teams to identify new business ideas, new revenue and economic streams, new experiences for our customers and LOB constituents. Engagements will focus on a range of topics, including customer discovery and data analysis, economic and financial analysis, new market entry, and innovating new offerings and business models. It is critical for this individual to quickly establish rapport, credibility, trust, and respect throughout the organization at all levels, and be viewed as a team player.

  • Provide thought leadership and generate new business ideas to drive LOB economics and customer value,
  • Lead business innovation projects that will enhance the understanding and merits of new business models, the economic opportunity behind certain ideas, and the case for change in how we address customer needs and LOB go-to-market strategies
  • Translate and synthesize project inputs to identify critical insights into compelling recommendations to crack the case and lead discussions with all levels of management
  • Structure end to end work plans and clearly frame the project scope to deliver business impact on high priority efforts
  • Partner with other Innovation Group leaders to provide innovation advisory to leaders across Wells Fargo
  • Manage and collaborate with direct and virtual teams to execute on recommendations
  • Understand and stay current with market and competitive landscape as well as the latest thinking in strategic and competitive advantage
  • Coach direct or non-direct team members to be future leaders and achieve their own development goals
  • Leverage multiple channels to gather feedback, including individual, and 360 to assess team growth and performance

  • Lead your team with integrity and create an environment where your team members feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.
  • Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented team members, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing team members, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of strategic planning experience
  • 3+ years of management experience



Other Desired Qualifications
  • 10+ years total work experience with a focus on strategy, helping organizations identify and set the direction toward their most important goals
  • Ability to develop and lead end-to-end work process to structure complex problems, develop clear hypotheses, conduct analyses and drive actionable recommendations through a data driven process
  • Ability to create clear, concise, and convincing communications including PowerPoint presentations
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for the fundamental drivers of business economics and competitive advantage
  • Strong people development and leadership skills; collaborative team player who is also an independent thinker
  • Experience with approaches to testing strategic hypotheses and options (e.g., Lean Startup, Agile)
  • Advanced graduate degree (e.g., MBA, PhD, etc.) preferred


Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
