ResponsibilitiesRole Overview Role will identify, evaluate and coordinate external innovation partnering/collaboration to identify and technically evaluate pharma, biopharma and other technology leads that align with R&D and marketing strategy Will work closely with the senior management to map opportunities, provide detailed assessments of external assets, generate constructive technical feedback for external companies and groups, and assess their value and strategic importance. Will leverage a clear understanding of the regulatory environments, pharmaceutical standards of care in the target markets, critical relationships, and emerging technologies to provide Elanco with competitive access to potential opportunities of strategic interest. Will identify, establish and manage relationships with key partners including biotechnology companies, universities and grant funding agencies Day to Day Responsibilities Seek out new external technology, product and grant funding opportunities aligned with the global pharma/biopharma strategy. Coordinate cross-functional scientific due diligence activities to ensure timely & thorough evaluation of new leads. Work closely with key internal stakeholders (example Research, legal and IP counsels, business development) to ensure the entire search and evaluation process is conducted in a timely, ethical and compliant manner. Establish and maintain relationships with key grant funding agencies and other key R&D partners; represent the public face of Elanco R&D End to end management of the relationship with the third party throughout the search and evaluation or collaboration period to create win-win scenarios. Alliance management activities as required. Make recommendations to Director, External Innovation regarding go/no go decisions through identification, generation activities. Provides timely and accurate information on external innovation efforts to EI management team as needed

Additional Skills/PreferencesProven track record of leading or supporting significant collaborative projects with academic and/or industry partners. Advanced interpersonal and customer facing skills. Proven ability to work independently with minimal day to day supervision. A functional interest in general and patent law. Basic understanding of the pharmaceutical and biopharma regulatory environment. Basic understanding of pharmaceutical and biopharma manufacturing requirements PhD and/or DVM. > 3 years of experience in lead finding/business development/alliance management in the veterinary pharmaceuticals industry with an existing network of key contacts in academia and small medium sized enterprises. Background or knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development.
