The Public Relations & Crisis Director works on integrated communications strategy and implementation for all clients including traditional public relations, media relations, crisis communications and social media support. The majority of the directors accounts will be law firms, legal service providers, financial institutions and other professional service and B2B companies.
The job responsibilities include: Responsible for client public relations, content and crisis strategy, management and support. Integrates public relations initiatives with clients overall business development and marketing strategy. Assists with media monitoring and reporting, media list development and management. Drafts and issues press release and media advisories, pitches media, updates clients websites (predominantly WordPress) and shares on social media. Oversees strategic content writing and editing (including blogs). Maintains agency and client editorial calendars. Oversees monthly client reporting, PR client relations, and agency support as needed. Collaborates across functions and silos to deliver an effective PR and crisis strategy and editorial plan to meet business objectives. Ensures that all materials comply with brand guidelines, is focused on target markets, is optimized for search and supports the editorial calendar. Regularly measures and analyzes campaign effectiveness and make appropriate recommendations. Continually monitors industry conversations and trends to identify opportunities to build upon them from an angle supportive of goals. Works with clients to create and contribute outstanding bylined articles, blogs, whitepapers, etc. Builds upon and extensively repurposes content generated in other marketing channels. Manages various editorial calendars and various distribution hubs including blogs/websites (WordPress and custom platforms), email (vertical response), social media (on platforms and through scheduling tools including Hootsuite and CoSchedule). This person must understand the basic best practices of the main social media channels, including what kinds of content and approaches work best on each, and why. Handles measurement and optimization.
Requirements Degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism or relevant field. 5-10 years of experience in public relations and crisis communications, ideally B2B, and some journalism experience (legal industry experience a plus). A demonstrable history of creating effective and memorable public relations strategies and pitching complex news stories with positive outcomes. Outstanding writing ability and understanding of business generally, and B2B sales, specifically. Legal industry experience a plus. High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of AP Style. Strategic thinker, self-starter and motivated. Ability to work in office (must have own transportation), at clients sites within commuting distance (on occasion) and from home. Ability to analyze and present public relations, content and social media performance. Experience with BurrellesLuce, PRNewswire, BusinessWire, Gorkana, PRWeb, Meltwater, WordPress, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, CoSchedule, Basecamp, and the top social channels preferred. Experience creating and editing multi-media platforms including PowerPoint, video, and audiocasts a plus. The ideal candidate must possess project management skills and understand how to manage the priorities of multiple stakeholders in a complex environment while focusing on the delivery of results in the form of engagement.
