Research Scientist

Description

The Research Scientist uses water soluble polymer and industrial enzyme competencies to develop novel solutions for pulp and paper customer problems. Work may include development of enzyme formulations, dry strength, wet strength, and retention / drainage chemistries based upon water-soluble polymer technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patent and other literature in area of expertise.
  • Performs hazard reviews and maintains compliance with all lab safety requirements.
  • Plans, conducts, and analyzes data from laboratory experiments.
  • Documents and reports findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Interacts with marketing, applications, and commercial teams to develop commercial evaluation plans.
  • Participates in commercial trials.
  • Works jointly with other team members and may direct the day-to-day activities of one or more technicians.
  • Qualifications

  • M.S. minimum, Ph.D. preferred with polymer and biochemistry academic focus including synthesis and characterization
  • 5-10 years industrial research experience - water-soluble polymers and enzymes
  • Pulp and paper applications background preferred
  • Thorough understanding of industrial application of enzymes.
  • Experience in polymer synthesis and characterization techniques
  • Ability to apply fundamental science to successfully develop new products and application technology in complex aqueous pulp and paper systems
  • MS Office tools
  • Statistical experimental design and data analysis
