Public Relations Assistant (Volunteer Position)

The nonprofit news organization WhoWhatWhy is looking for a volunteer Public Relations Assistant. You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we ask for a minimum commitment of 5-8 hours a week.

We are a remarkable news organization and community that is making a difference, setting a new standard, and innovating on every front. A nonprofit that accepts no advertising, WhoWhatWhy is staffed largely with skilled volunteers dedicated to elevating public awareness and fostering a more vigorous democracy.And while we do depend on volunteers, as our public fundraising permits, we aspire eventually to offer compensation wherever possible. Future prospects in this regard depend also on the value each person brings to this collaborative venture.

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 5-8 hours a week. Because our staff is spread throughout the world, we communicate mostly through email. All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Communications, Marketing or related field
  • Interest in PR with a can do attitude!
  • Newsroom experience a plus
  • The ability to work independently, in a virtual team environment
  • A creative mindset
  • Charismatic, outgoing personality and strong determination
  • Responsibilities

  • Contact other news organizations to promote our work and accomplishments
  • Analyze our brand footprint and help us improve it
  • Work closely with other team members to create clever, catchy PR campaigns
